Issue 18 | Term 4 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we head into the last month of the term, it seems each week brings a multitude of events and celebrations. Our Prep cohort donned their Santa hats as they enjoyed the last incursion of the year before they move into Year 1 and at the other end of our school, our Year 6's will be packing for camp this weekend as they head off for four days to Maroon next week.

Our band, strings and choral students performed at their end of year Summer Soiree on Tuesday and Wednesday evening, showcasing their outstanding talents. We thank you all for such a wonderful evening and for our Music Department for their ongoing dedication and commitment to this program. "Music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common."

I'd like to remind you about the disruption to classes in the last two weeks of school. B Block will be closed and classes in this block will move to other blocks. To enable this, our Year 6 and some of our Year 5 classes will move to W Block over at Benowa State High School. I will be communicating with all families affected by this move in greater detail shortly.

This year Benowa State School will be again supporting two wonderful Christmas initiatives and we encourage our community to show their support. Our Student Council is collecting gifts for the STAR Community Services Secret Santa for Seniors supporting the elderly at Christmas and Miss Trish is collecting gifts for St John's Surfers Paradise who generously distribute hampers to those in need during this time. Please read the information below on how you can assist and what items would benefit these two organisations. Donations are open from 03 - 28 November.

Finally, our Annual Scholastic Book Fair has finished and we are proud to announce our school made $8412.66 in sales. We were slightly shy of our $10k goal, however this will enable us to receive $2,523.00 in commission rewards for resources for the next year.
I would like to thank our Librarian, Mrs Bampton for organising and leading another very successful Book Fair and thank you, our community for supporting our school, your generosity is truly appreciated.

Mr Josey
Principal

The students have been hard at work with their major projects and I am incredibly proud of the ideas they have come up with and they way have executed these ideas using many different artistic skills.

So come along to the hall from 3pm until 6 to see clay sculptures, canvases, artist appreciation works and a new contribution from our Art Excellence Club which runs during lunchtimes.

Congratulations
I would like to congratulate Riton in Year 2 for coming first in the Intermediate Category at the Gold Coast City Council's ART-AST (Active School Travel) Competition.
The competition received more than 700 entries from students across 40 schools on the Gold Coast.

Riton's painting showed an incredible amount of detail and planning as well as exhibiting his skills using line and colour effectively.

Well Done Riton, on a well-deserved first place! The GCCC presented our school with a replica of Riton's artwork which is displayed in our Reception.

Year 5 Design and Technology - 3D Printing

During week 5, a group of ten Year 5 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to Robina State High School to take part in a special workshop on 3D printing. Accompanied by Mrs Karen Barling and Mrs Rochelle Williams, the students spent the day learning about the design and technology behind this innovative process.

Under the guidance of Mr Sean McGrath, the students discovered how 3D printers can transform digital designs into real objects by building them layer by layer. They had the chance to experiment with design software, explore how 3D printers work, and even see their creations come to life right before their eyes.

A big thank you to Mr McGrath and Robina State High School for hosting such an inspiring and educational experience. The students returned to school buzzing with new ideas and a deeper appreciation for innovation and design.
