International students are an important and celebrated group in the Benowa State School community. Our International Student Program aims not only to maximise the learning outcomes for all international students, but also to promote their involvement in our wider school community. We believe this provides a valuable opportunity for all our community to learn a deep respect for diversity and to develop a global view of the world.
A Wonderful Achievement
International student, Sooye, came to Benowa State School at the beginning of 2020 from Korea.
Only a few months into Term 1, COVID-19 impacted on all of us, harder on some than others. As Sooye moved into Learning from Home, classroom interaction was very limited and the lack of socialising made it difficult to make new friends.
Despite all these setbacks, in August Sooye was nominated by her peers to be a Class Representative and inducted into Benowa State School Student Council.
In only six months, we feel this is a wonderful achievement for this young student in our International Student Program.
