Benowa State School has forged many relationships within the Benowa Community and is proud to be involved in many local community initiatives. These relationships provide enriched opportunities to support students to flourish within our environment.
Griffith University and Friends of the Gold Coast Botanical Gardens
Our school worked closely with Friends of the Gold Coast Botanical Gardens and Griffith University in the design, planning and creation of our Nature Patch project on our front lawn. The Nature Patch enables our classes to extend their learning outside in a dedicated space, amongst native plants local to our area, planted around a rock bed that leads to the yarning circle by the gum tree. This space has become a significant part of our Benowa School Community and a space where students can come together to learn and grow.
Coles Benowa Gardens
School hirer and community group, Global Care, have played an integral part in assisting our school on multiple occasions. They are a wonderful group of people who regularly support our school in community-based work which has been of great benefit to our school.
Eat Up
In addition, the Eat Up organisation delivers sandwiches and snack packs to have on hand for students who, for many reasons, do not have food at school. These acts of kindness enable us to look after those who need it most, fostering our community and creating long-lasting relationships.
Story Dogs
Each week we are greeted with wagging tails and happy smiles from our Story Dogs team. Diane and Shadow visit our school to deliver a much loved literacy program aimed to
make reading fun in a non-judgemental setting to improve confidence and literacy skills. The accepting, loving nature of dogs gives this program its magic and helps children relax, open up, try harder and have fun while reading to a friendly, calm dog.
