Our school

Benowa State School was established as a small rural school in 1885. The local district underwent major change during the 1970s and 1980s, catapulting the area into a thriving Gold Coast suburb.

An active Parents and Citizens’ Association is in operation. The P&C meets every fourth Wednesday of the month. Membership is open to all community members over the age of 18 years. The executive consists of the President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The Principal is an ex-officio member.

Our current enrolment is 860, with 920 students in Prep to 6 and 35 in the Special Education program (SEP) for pre-Prep age children with physical and intellectual impairments.

The school is multi cultural, with students currently identified from approximately 140 different national backgrounds. An English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) teacher works with Prep to 6 students five days per week.

Approximately 5% of the student population has intellectual, physical, and/or speech impairments and receive additional educational support through our learning support class or SEP. Another 10% also benefit from intervention programs provided for students identified at risk in literacy and numeracy.

An active student council operates and consists of elected students from years 3 to 6. The major objective of the student council is to represent the needs and interests of all students in the school and to raise funds for charitable organisations.

Benowa State School has a Supportive School Environment policy which incorporates a Responsible Behaviour Plan (PDF, 963 KB) and school Uniform policy (PDF, 51 KB). A school Enrolment Management Plan is also in existence.
