Special education program
At Benowa State School, our Special education program is called the ‘Access’ Centre. As the name implies, we assist students to access the curriculum and social skills needed to participate in, and contribute to, our schooling environment and beyond.
The ‘Access’ Centre provides a happy, safe and supportive learning environment where each student is encouraged to achieve his or her individual potential and maximum independence in an inclusive setting.
We cater for all students with disabilities, including ASD, II, PI, SLI, HI, and VI. We assist students in both mainstream and Access Centre classes according to their individual needs.
We provide in-class support for students who participate in mainstream classes. Teacher Aides assist students in accessing the mainstream curriculum.
At the Access Centre, we value the contribution and genuine interest of our students’ families. We endeavour to keep parents informed of all relevant issues. Each student has a case manager (one of our Access Centre teachers) who monitors and directs his or her educational, emotional and social wellbeing throughout their school journey.
Case managers and Head of Special Education Services (HOSES) are available at any time to assist you with any questions you may have regarding your child’s education.
