The Benowa community has placed a high level of importance on keeping our students active as well as promoting activities which have elements of participation as well as providing opportunities for all students regardless of ability. Students participate in weekly physical education (PE) classes with a specialist teacher. Year 1 and Year 3 also participate in a swimming program in term 4 of each year.
We have four sporting houses, Mckay (green), Wright (red), Kellerman (Blue) and Moncrieff (Yellow).
Students participate in inter-house carnivals for swimming, cross-country and athletics. Students are also offered a range of opportunities to compete in inter-school competitions for swimming, athletics, cross-country and team sports.
Intra-school sport competitions are organised within the school throughout the year. All students in years 3 to 7 participate in sport on one afternoon per week.
Benowa State School students also participate in district and regional competitions in cross country, swimming and athletics. From these events students are chosen to compete in state and national competitions.
Benowa State School runs a very successful incentive badge running program as part of its Smart moves fitness program.
Classes are encouraged to set distance running goals and work to achieve these over the school year in the daily fitness times.
The children purchase a low cost badge when they achieve the set distances. These are worn with great pride on their sports uniforms.
To date we have students in Year four who have achieved their 200 km badges and Prep students with their 25 km badges.
Many other schools from Queensland are now also taking up the program that Benowa State School has found so successful in motivating students to be active. We look forward to seeing them improve their fitness and attitude to an active lifestyle also.
