The Kokoda Challenge is an annual event run across South East Queensland. Benowa State School proudly participates in the 18Km Gold Coast trek across the gruelling tracks of our majestic yet ruggered Hinterland.
Each year, we enter six eager and motivated teams of Year 5 and Year 6 students who undergo an intense training period in the lead up to the event. The dedication and support exhibited by our students and their families in the weeks prior is truly wonderful.
Our students, under the supervision and guidance of our Benowa teachers and support staff, are all humbled and inspired by the story of Kokoda and the many challenges our Australian soldiers faced as they fought on the Kokoda Track in papua New Guinea in WWII. The Kokoda Challenge embodies the Spirit of Kokoda through Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice and each student who partipates is shown how these core values are still very relevant today.
Each of our six teams are encouraged to fundraise for the Challenge entrance fee which goes towards the Kokoda Youth Foundation - an Australian charity who run a range of youth programs to support local youth.
