ISSUE 6 TERM 2 2025
ANZAC DAY The term started with deep reflection as we remembered our fallen soldiers and the dedication of so many lives to protecting the values and life we so enjoy in our country. Our School ANZAC Service coordinated and put together by our very capable Ms Best (HOD:C) and led by our amazing student leaders, made for a very engaging and reflective opportunity for all who attended.
I was very proud of the way in which all our students understood the purpose of the service and the necessary protocols for such an event. Our two guests were a welcome addition to the service with a wonderful address given by Corporal Matthew Jarvis.
Corporal Matthew Jarvis spoke about the ANZAC Spirit and the qualities that should pervade all of our lives, adults, children and the service men and women of the Navy, Army and Air Force. In this he said, the ANZAC spirit represents:
- A Sense of Purpose and Direction
- An Acceptance of Responsibility
- A Sense of Compassion
Corporal Matthew Jarvis related these attributes wonderfully to everyday life for a student, giving them all a sense of connection to the message. We received terrific feedback about the power of this message for both children and adults alike.
The support for ANZAC Day did not stop there. Our school also participated in the local Surfers Paradise Dawn Service and midday Service. Mrs Whittering led the charge with a range of students and parents at the Dawn Service. With our school flag in hand, the group proudly marched to and ANZAC Memorial at Surfers Paradise on the Esplanade. Two of our school leaders in Cyrus and Divjot took their official seats to formally lay our wreath for this service.
Then, at midday, I was joined by our other school leaders Luka and Imogen and their families to take part in this service on ANZAC Day. The students did a wonderful job representing our school. Coincidently, we had the wonderful pleasure of sitting alongside our Benowa State High School counterparts, which gave a very strong message of support for the ANZAC Spirit being alive and well in the Benowa Community.
I wish to thank the range of staff and families who supported our students to participate in these range of services on this very special occasion in our calendar. Lest we Forget.
In one of the photos attached we were joined by the local Federal Member in Angie Bell and the current Minister for Education Mr John Paul Langbroek. It was wonderful for our Minister to witness this strong presence from the Benowa education community.

As a part of our uniform and Student Code of Conduct, all students are required to have a Benowa hat. Please ensure your child has a hat in preparation for the audit.
